Weekly Club Rides

  • Tuesday
  • Social Ride (No-Drop Ride)
  • Location: River Cale Café.
  • Time: 7.00pm, weekly.
  • Speeds: 10 to 12mph (16 to 19kmh).
  • Distance: 12 to 20m (19 to 30km).
  • Description: Your classroom on wheels. This ride is led by experienced riders who will give you tips on everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask.
  • You will be not left on your own as this is a No-Drop Ride.
  • Wednesday
  • Social Ride (No-Drop Ride)
  • Location: Weekly locations to be published on the website in advance.
  • Time: 6.00pm, once a month during the summer.
  • Speeds: Up to 15mph (24kmh).
  • Distance: 25m approx. (40km).
  • Description: This is a leisurely, social ride to a local pub. The speed will be slightly faster than a Tuesday or Saturday ride, but not so fast that any rider will be dropped.

  • Tempo Training (Drop Ride)
  • Location: River Cale Café.
  • Time: 7.00pm, weekly during the winter.
  • Speeds: 14mph plus (22.5kmh +).
  • Distance: Up to 25 miles (40km).
  • Description: Looking to test your fitness level? Tempo Thursday will have you at the tip of the saddle, riding just above aerobic training and just below your lactate threshold. Tempo riding with a group of riders doesn’t require as much effort as riding the same effort alone as you have an opportunity to draft behind other riders. Each rider takes a turn at the front for 30 seconds, then pulls off to drift to the back of the group. Your group riding skills will be challenged.
  • Tip: Only take a turn at the front if you can sustain the effort for 30 seconds and not go into oxygen debt and lose the ability to maintain the pace. If you can’t take a turn, simply pull off when your turn comes.
  • Thursday
  • Hare and Hound (Drop Ride).
  • Location: River Cale Café.
  • Time: 7.00pm, weekly during the summer.
  • Speeds: 14mph plus (22.5kmh +).
  • Distance: Up to 25 miles (40km).
  • Description: This is the weekly ride to really test your fitness, after a winter of Tempo Training.
  • Saturday
  • Social Ride (No-Drop Ride)
  • Location: River Cale Café.
  • Time: 9.00am, weekly.
  • Speeds: 10 to 12mph (16 to 19kmh).
  • Distance: 25m approx. (40km approx.)
  • Description: Cycling. Coffee. The two go hand in hand. Come out to this social ride and hit the area’s best coffee and cake stops.
  • You will be not left on your own as this is a No-Drop Ride.
  • Saturday
  • Down & Dirty (No-Drop Ride)
  • Location: As advertised on the website.
  • Time: 9.00am, once every 2 months.
  • Speeds: Dictated by terrain.
  • Distance: Up to 30m (48km).
  • Description: This is an MTB ride lead by an experienced off-road cyclist. You will ride some of the off-road tracks, for example those around Penselwood and Longleat. Be prepared to get dirty and wet whilst enjoying some fantastic routes with amazing scenery.
  • You will be not left on your own as this is a No-Drop Ride.
  • Sunday
  • Sunday Roast Ride (No-Drop Ride)
  • Location: River Cale Café.
  • Time: 9.00am weekly.
  • Speeds: 13mph plus (21kmh).
  • Distance: 35 to 40m (56 to 64km).
  • Description: For those looking to cycle further and slightly faster than the Saturday Coffee ride, but still with a fabulous cup of coffee and piece of cake halfway round!
  • As the name suggest this ride will be back in Wincanton in time for Sunday lunch!
  • Sunday
  • Fast Ride (Drop Ride)
  • Location: River Cale Café.
  • Time: 9.00am, weekly except the 3rd Sunday of each month.
  • Speeds: 15mph plus (24kmh).
  • Distance: 40 - 75m (64 to 120km).
  • Description: Traditional weekly club ride.
  • Any rider if dropped must be prepared to make their own way back to Wincanton, or to the Café stop.
  • Sunday
  • No Stop 40/50 (Drop Ride)
  • Location: River Cale Café.
  • Time: 9.00am, once a month on the 3rd Sunday, in place of the Fast Ride.
  • Speeds: 15mph plus (24kmh).
  • Distance: 40 to 50m (64 to 80km).
  • Description: Traditional weekly club ride with no coffee stop. During the winter the ride will be approx. 40 miles and approx. 50 miles during the summer.
  • As the name suggest this ride will be back in Wincanton in time for Sunday lunch!

  • Summer: 26th March 2023 – 29th October 2023
  • Winter: 30th October 2023 – 30th March 2024
  • All speeds given are an average and are indicative only. The speed of the ride will be governed by the ride leader, the elevation gain and the terrain.
